【教養講座】Migration and Language
【講座内容】
What happens to language when people move? This course examines the linguistic dimensions of human mobility through real data and case studies from Japan and around the world. Topics include multilingualism in migrant communities, language barriers in healthcare, education, and the workplace, language policies and citizenship testing, and new language varieties emerging through contact and mobility. Students will critically assess common assumptions — that migrants refuse to learn the language of the destination, or that linguistic diversity threatens cohesion — and develop evidence-based, language-aware approaches to migrant support and integration.
